Alborada Taciturna was composed to create original repertoire for the euphonium in the style
of traditional Colombian music. This work is written in the rhythm of currulao, a traditional
genre from the Pacific coast of Colombia.
The composition presents an introduction of the solo euphonium with a mysterious atmosphere
that gives the piece its name and that is inspired by the climate of the city of Tunja where it
was composed. Then, together with the piano, the currulao rhythm begins, which develops until
the central section, where the euphonium shows its prominence through a cadenza and a solo
that sounds like an improvisation.
